Your paycheck

A person cannot receive even one thing unless God bestows it.

‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭27‬ ‭TPT‬‬

The ability to work is bestowed upon us by God - if we are fortunate to receive this gift. That is not the end of  the meaning behind this verse.  Each paycheck itself is from God.  That part seems difficult for most men to grasp.

Work and pay are so very logically connected. If I work, then I get paid - simple enough it seems.  But God… God works outside our logic.

God’s Logic says a man’s work is not connected to a man’s standard of living in spite of what logical connection these two concepts appear to make.  When the verse says “a man cannot receive even one thing”, it refers to every “one thing” such as a paycheck.

Your brain says when we work we get paid and when we get paid our standard of living is impacted.  However, many variables remain at work outside our control, but very much within the control of God.

For example, a disabling accident, a diagnosis of you or a family member, a natural disaster, an economic collapse, a bankruptcy or lawsuit, a divorce - any of these events may be outside of our control, but are not outside God’s control.  Any one of these events certainly shapes a man’s standard of living and most certainly control a paycheck, a bank account, a retirement account

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

When we come to realize the power of God in our lives, we begin to shape our appreciation for his gifts in a deeper way.  Grasping this reality changes the reason we go to work. We no longer work to make a living, we work to accomplish the goal God has for our life.

Each paycheck becomes another gift from God - not a product of our work.

Work as God would have you.  But live in your work as if God is in control of every aspect of your life - because he is.

How you wake up, set your calendar, treat your family and your coworkers, commute and give back to God will inevitably change as you digest this reality.
