Waiting, waiting, waiting....

But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Waiting can easily create boredom. Boredom seems to lead to sin. Why are we created in such a way?

The Israelites were good examples of a people that waited and waited and waited. 40 years! We can’t seem to get through an afternoon of waiting very well. The Israelites really botched it as they waited and waited. In their 40 years, they created such a disaster on how they lived in their boredom that they set a path of pain that lasts even today.

God demands that we wait on Him. He knows this is a teaching time where our souls have a chance to be renewed. This can only happen when God is on our minds - when His ways and His words lure us to Him. Anything else is a path to destruction.

When we allow boredom to set in we quickly find the ways of the world that will activate our endorphins and give us an easy pathway to occupy our time. We are naturally sucked in. And it feels good. We are reminded to “just do it.” And we often do.

God has a better way. His way gives new strength. We all need strength. Our strength workout takes no machines, no barbells, no miles beneath our nikes. Instead, our strength comes from opening the Bible and spending a few minutes, maybe a lot more, working out our souls. That strength is life giving. It is the strength that is unobtainable anywhere else.

Opening the Bible is by far the best place for our waiting. Go the gym if you want, but more importantly, go to the Bible where you obtain a life-giving strength.
