Wait all day

Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. Psalms 25:5

Waiting. It is part of the life God has in store for us. I am not good at waiting.

When it is past time to go and my wife if 10 minutes late already and somehow from the bedroom to the car she has 10 more things to accomplish including taking the trash out, moving the potted plant and feeding the cat. In those moments, I find out how impatient I am.

God probably looks at all of us and sees impatient people, throwing tantrums in our impatience. Yet, He tells us time and time again to wait on Him. This verse in Psalms 25 gives us a clue as to why we wait. God has something for us. If we wait patiently, we are taught something. Exactly what is always a mystery - until it isn’t.

When we watch the world, it is a busy place. I arrived at the airport to catch an early flight. The roads were empty and it was pitch dark when I made my way to the airport. When I rounded the corner to enter security, the lines snaked the entire concourse. Rush rush rush was the name of the game. Everyone was pushing hard to catch a flight. It’s the way the world works.

God has a different way. He says to us, “sit for awhile”. In the those moments God commands our attention. God doesn’t ask for our attention. He commands it. If we ignore Him, it does not go well. A wise man sits and gives God attention. He stops and learns what God has to teach at that moment. And the many moments that follow. And the days, weeks, months, years that follow. A mind set to learning mode is God’s way. Man’s way must adopt this as soon as possible. Immediately.
