Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Psalms 34:8
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
Psalms 34:19
Yesterday my wife baked miniature cherry pies. This morning, I took a bite and left the house to feed the animals. I do this at sunrise so that I see the sun come up. That is always a good time of the day to talk to God.
This morning the taste of cherry pie rolled around in my senses and reminded me that it is the taste of God that I am after.
This scripture is particularly intriguing as I realize how immediate the sense of taste is. Taste requires no hope of what tomorrow brings. Taste is an immediate sense. When we taste God it is right now - not some distant unknown point in the future. Today, He tastes like Cherry pie.
So much of the Bible talks of what tomorrow will bring and the art of God’s patience or long suffering. This passage shows another side of the relationship we have with God. This is the right here right now God. We taste him now. And we see Him now too. This scripture says taste and see! Both of our senses come to life at this moment and we breathe in God and all His love with the breath of life.
This Psalm goes on to speak of the problems we will face and reminds us that God will save us from EVERY one. No problem will be left unsolved.
As we taste and see at this moment, what choice do we have but to believe these words to the depth of our souls?
Taste and see. It takes a moment. The best moment of the day!
