Gifts in times of trouble

One of the promises we have is rather unpleasant. Jesus says it best in John 16:33. “In this world, you will have trouble.” That’s pretty simple. I have found it to be true. Not just for me, but for everyone.

Often, when I look around, my troubles look insignificant. When I am deep in, the troubles don’t feel like they are insignificant. In fact, they are pretty significant when the pain peaks.

Here’s the thing. The pain is painful. But occasionally, in the midst of the tears, a person shows up and embodies the fruits of the spirit with the most simple of gifts. Sharing a tear, picking up a prescription, chicken and wild rice, a well placed smile.

Gentleness, kindness, love, joy. These fruits settle the pain and bring the rest of Jesus words into the light. The rest of that verse is “but take heart! I have overcome the world.” How incredibly awesome those words become with such small gifts from others.

Be a gift giver - give fruits of the spirit - those are the best!
